Some Somalis in Australia allegedly inspired by Somali-based al-Shabab movement.Australia's SBS is reporting the following: ... "Police believe members of a Melbourne-based group have been undertaking planning to carry out a terrorist attack in Australia and allegedly involved in hostilities in Somalia," a police statement said. 'Surveillance' at army basesMembers of the group had reportedly been observed carrying out surveillance at the army base and other suspicious activity around defence bases in Victoria. The cell is believed to have been inspired by the Somalia-based terrorist movement al-Shabaab, which has connections with al-Qaeda. "Victoria Police and AFP can confirm the execution of a number of search warrants across Melbourne early this morning as part of a joint counter terrorism operation," a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.
